If you are like most of us these days you probably don’t have a huge amount of time to spend on food preparation yet you still value the pleasure of indulging in a meal that tastes good and is good for your health at the same time. Unfortunately more and more people are relying on purchasing pre-packaged ready to eat meals than ever before.

The problem with consuming these types of foods is that you do not really know what is in them unless you do a thorough check of the numbers listed on the ingredients list and then google them for definitions.

Stick to the foods like lean meats, free range eggs, wholemeal foods, oats, basmati, fruit and vegetables and dairy and prepare your own meals from ingredients like organic meat and vegetables; you can enlist the help of some additives like vegetable stock cubes just ensure they do not contain preservatives, colorings or flavourings etc. Simply cut up your ingredients the night before if you are short on time in the morning, add it to the slow cooker along with the other ingredients the next morning and when you get home you can relax and enjoy not having to cook.

There are some lovely chicken breast recipes around for slow cookers; however you are not limited to casserole type dishes – but having said that there are awesome sweet potato casserole recipes that will blow you away. You can also prepare meals like Italian meatballs, macaroni and cheese pasta or a leg of lamb, they really offer a lot of versatility. They are easy to wash as well simply remove the casserole dish from the cooker and rinse, you can then place it on the bottom shelf of the dishwasher or wash it by hand depending on your personal preference. Try serving some roasted pumpkin seeds as an accompaniment to your slow cooker meal they make a lovely crisp hors d’oeuvres
