Ancient Egyptians, Chinese and Indians were a resourceful lot, conjuring up skin care products from natural elements. Using the earth, trees and other natural resources like milk, fruits and roots they took care of their skin.
The Egyptians used almonds for better complexion and for dry and aging skin; hence they even had anti aging products! The Chinese were also pretty adept in using naturally available herbs for treating their skin.
The Indians believed in having a lifestyle that preserved their health and consequently their skin. Yoga was a part of life and Ayurveda was fairly advanced, which is a completely based on herbs and minerals. Milk has been used to exfoliate and rejuvenate skin. These are some of the ingenuous ways in which the skin was taken care of using bare minerals available such as herbs, products and minerals.
But, before choosing any particular product, it is important for one to know what kind of skin he or she has and what products to use to enjoy full benefits of the product. The different types of skin are:
- Oily Skin: Oily skin is characterized by acne and pimples, which normally break out during teenage years, owing to hormonal imbalances being at their peak with too much sebum being produced in the body. Water based moisturizers are recommended for oily skin.
- Dry Skin: Thin texture and dryness even in mornings when it should not be so. Mineral water should be used when cleansing dry skin.
- Sensitive Skin: This kind of skin is generally Itchy, patchy and red. The people with sensitive skin should keep away from exposure to sun, dirt, or dust.
- Normal/Combination Skin: This kind of skin is characterized by medium pores, healthy color, and smooth texture. Mild soap and water should be used to wash face, twice a day. Skin should be toned using rose water.
