What is your reaction to this article’s title? Obviously, this statement is not correct. Nicotine, in the past decades, had proved to be hazardous to human health whether taken directly or indirectly like secondhand smoke.

The most popular method of taking nicotine is cigarette smoking since the beginning of the 20th century. Other nicotine products include cigars, pipe tobacco, and chewing tobacco. If you are a smoker, probably you are already aware of the health hazards that may be inflicted to your body as a nicotine user. Let us find more how nicotine works and how nicotine products are dangerous to our body systems.

Nicotine is a drug. It is both a stimulant and a sedative. It is highly addictive. his stimulates the central nervous system, and other endocrine glands, which causes a sudden release of glucose. Stimulation is then followed by depression and fatigue, leading the abuser to seek more nicotine.

Nicotine is absorbed readily from tobacco smoke in the lungs, and it does not matter whether the tobacco smoke is from cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Nicotine also is absorbed readily when tobacco is chewed. With regular use of tobacco, levels of nicotine accumulate in the body during the day and persist overnight. Thus, daily smokers or chewers are exposed to the effects of nicotine for 24 hours each day.

Various treatments have been made to address the problem regarding nicotine addiction. Quitting smoking all at once is not recommended; quitting gradually should be done since withdrawal symptoms are less severe. Alternatives are also made available for cigarette addicts and nicotine dependent individuals. With the use of modern technology, producers have developed the electronic cigar. This device mimics the sensations provided by the real cigarette; there is smoke too! Another one is the nicotine chewing gum. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and it is used for the treatment of nicotine dependents.

Lung cancer, mouth cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis – all are very alarming diseases which can be accumulated through continuous intake of nicotine. Nicotine products have no benefits to human health. These products are dangerous and may lead to sicknesses, and even death.
