Many of us no longer use our garage for what it was intended. Instead of using it for or cars, wave runners, or boat, have exercise equipment, riding lawnmower, and often times just stuff.
This stuff take over the entire garage to the extend we can’t park a vehicle in there even if we wanted to.
To overcome the shortage of storage in our garage some have opted for the installation of a metal carport. A metal carport if a metal canopy that has sufficient space underneath it park or two. Carports come in various sizes to accommodate most needs. Here are a few basic tips to help you with your carport kit project.
Tip #1: Many homes are subject to the rules and regulations of a homeowners association and the covenants and restrictions that have been approved by the association. Check your restrictions and speak to the association to make sure you can indeed install a metal carport. Some allow it. some do not. Often times you may be allowed but may have to install it on the side or back of your property. Normally this is done for aesthetic reasons. Metal carports though useful can sometimes be an eyesore in a ritzy neighborhood.
Tip #2: Check with your local building department to determine if a permit for the installation of the carport will be needed. Usually it is not but if it is required you’ll find the process to apply pretty painless and the fees to be nominal.
Bring your carports specification sheet, You can get this from the dealer, as it may be something your building department may ask for.
Tip #3: Installation of a metal carport is not too complicated but it can be a bit of physical work. If you don’t feel up to the task get a quote from your dealer to install the carport.
In all carports are a great solution for an over-stuffed garage. Just keep our tips in mind when shopping for a carport for sale.
