For many years as well as in a wide array of cultures all over the world, both women and men have relished in the soothing qualities and healthy benefits of massage therapy. Unfortunately, unproductive stereotypes have prevented many of today’s men from lying on the massage table and getting a relaxing massage.
Research suggests that together with this sense of anxiety is the societal view that the male species are ought to be hard and tough, not requiring any outside support – a fear wherein their masculinity may, by some means, be jeopardized or assaulted. In terms of massage therapy, as per reports, men may fear of being handled or touched, more particularly by a guy massage therapist. They are also afraid that sexual sensations might arise during the session, either with a female or male therapist.
Experiencing emotions anywhere between trepidation and anticipation is normal, especially for men who are new to this form of therapy. Although modern men are a lot curious than before with regards to receiving therapeutic massage services, there still exist a hint of anxiety in terms of scheduling that very first appointment. Many men’s apprehension maybe alleviated by availing of massage services in places wherein they frequent and are comfortable, like the gym for instance.
Most gyms these days are offering sports massage therapy services. It has been said that combining massage therapy with a “prolific activity” such as working out makes it a whole lot easier for many men to get into it. As a matter of fact, the number of people enrolling themselves in massage therapy schools to learn the proper administration of sports massage therapy, along with other forms of massage is fast increasing.
Many men’s anxiety and fear are further decreased once they enthusiastically contribute towards the entire therapeutic process – through muscle testing, dialogue, resisted stretching as well as strengthening. As a matter of fact, a lot of men are drawn towards this form of therapy which accentuates the rehabilitative features of massage – for pain relief, muscular problems and sports injuries.
