Some people put in french doors just for the aesthetic reason, while others will still utilize the functionality of them. Some doors already come with french door hardware installed on them by the time they are installed in your door frame, while others you may need to do a separate installation in order to make them functional.
The hardware for a french door is what allows the door to be functional rather than just being a decorative standing fixture. The hardware for these door are typically very similar to that of a normal front door, but there are some additional items that you can have with a french door.
Obviously, for a door to work and be used successfully, you are going to need it to be secured in to the door frame, so you are going to need some security screw. Also, for it to open and close, you need door hinges. If you choose to, you can even give your french door a lock on it in order to prevent any possible intruders from entering. In order for your door to open, you are going to need to install a door knob or lever as well as a knocker.
Due to the fact that french doors are already quite a decorative piece to the exterior of your home, you have the option to customize the hardware and make it decorative as well. The finishes on this hardware can range in all different types of metals such as brass, bronze, chrome, nickel, pewter, steel, copper, iron, and even crystal. With each type of metal, you have other different options for the way each type of metal looks or is finished. Theses options allow you to not only match your door to its hardware, but also match it to the rest of the items on your patio or in your backyard.
Putting in one of these doors with its hardware in order to make it functional can be a very nice addition to your house. If you do not have a a door frame that is suitable for these french doors, you may need to start a project where you are installing door frames in your house or hire a company to do so.
